A History of Innovation
More lecithin benefits…
⇒⇒ Lecithin is a component of the myelin sheath that surrounds and insulates nerve fibers; helpful for those with multiple sclerosis, stress, fibromyalgia, PMS, depression and hyperactivity.
⇒⇒ Lecithin lines the lungs, soothing mucous membranes and preventing the irritation caused by allergies, hay fever, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and COPD.
⇒⇒ Lecithin is a joint lubricant.
⇒⇒ Lecithin is essential for healthy hair, skin and nails.
⇒⇒ Lecithin helps the cells absorb nutrients.
Lecithin: Gotta love it! Gotta take it!
The word lecithin comes from the Greek lekithos, meaning “the yolk of an egg”, actually one of the richest sources of this vital substance. According to Introduction to Lecithin by Howard E. Hill, “Lecithin is a phosphatide, or phospholipid, a fatty compound found in all cellular organisms made up of phosphoric esters. Lipids are our body fats. In association with proteins they are important components of our most important organs, such as the nerves, glands and the brain. Phosphorus plays an important role in our basic energy production… [and] in the metabolism of every cell. Without phospholipids, we would have no brain, no glands and no energy production.”
Lecithin is essential in maintaining the surface tension of cellular membranes. Without adequate supplies, the membranes weaken and would eventually break down, spilling their contents. It is also essential in cellular permeability, which varies from cell type to cell type, allows each cell to select and control the substances it will allow in (such as water and nutrients), which to transport out (metabolic wastes), and which to block from entering (such as toxins). The selective permeability of cells also is vital to the propagation and transmission of nerve impulses.
Lecithin strengthens the heart, liver, and even the lungs. It slows down… and even stops… the accumulation of fat in the liver. It increases the absorption and assimilation of fat-soluble nutrients like beta carotene and vitamins A, D, K, and E. In fact, lecithin is essential to the proper functioning of every cell in every organ in the human body… and everyone needs it!
Lecithin and your health
Your heart: The primary cause of heart disease and stroke is a build up of hardened fats in the veins and arteries, resulting in arteriosclerosis. This accumulation narrows the diameter of the blood vessels, raising your blood pressure and making a heart attack or stroke more likely.
Lecithin helps lower these risks by dissolving hardened fats within the body. Because lecithin is a powerful emulsifying agent, it is especially important in preventing… or even reversing… arteriosclerosis.
Your liver: Your liver metabolizes all fats and cholesterol from the foods you eat. The liver manufactures both lecithin and cholesterol. When these substances become unbalanced, cholesterol can build up, contributing to hardening of major arteries and blocking the blood vessels in the liver, decreasing its function drastically. If your cholesterol is elevated, one of the first things you should do is supplement your diet with Shaklee Lecithin.
Your nervous system: A major component of lecithin is choline, a part of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Without choline, none of the messages your brain transmits would get through. Lecithin can help keep your nervous system functioning properly.
Lecithin and weight loss
Did you know that lecithin can help get rid of excess body fat?
Because blood is comprised mostly of water, fats cannot dissolve and be metabolized or eliminated. But when you add lecithin, those fats become tiny particles which can pass through arterial walls to be utilized or eliminated.
But lecithin doesn’t stop there. Once it has emulsified the fat we just ate, it then goes to work on excess fat stored in the body, breaking it down and sending it to the digestive tract for elimination. That’s why every sensible diet regimen should include liberal amounts of lecithin… just the boost your body needs to rid itself of excess fat!
Why Shaklee Lecithin?
Shaklee Lecithin comes from soybeans, a rich source of this vital substance. Shaklee Lecithin capsules feature natural concentra-tions of its important constituents, including linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid which the body cannot make; the neurotransmitter choline; and inositol, which plays an important metabolic regulating role as a key component of cell membranes.
Each Shaklee Lecithin capsule provides 520 mg of lecithin and contains no added preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. It’s also gluten free.
Ah-h-h spring? (Ah-h-h choo!)
It’s exciting… the grass is green once again, trees are leafing out, birds are singing and flowers are blooming everywhere! If you’ve been waiting patiently through a winter of rain, sleet and snow (or even if you live in a mild climate) spring is a time to celebrate!
But for many of us, spring also means sneezing, runny noses, red eyes and all of the other symptoms of… allergies.
This year, try building your immunity against allergic reactions. We suggest:
Long one of the favorite supplements to fight spring allergy symptoms, Alfalfa Complex contains a wealth of valuable minerals including calcium, phosphorous, iron, and magnesium, as well as bioflavonoids, trace minerals, protein, vitamins, and chlorophyll. This nutrient-rich supplement helps alleviate allergy symptoms for many who try it.
One of the most powerful formulas ever developed for strengthening the immune system, NutriFeron has a unique, synergistic blend of plant extracts including pumpkin seeds, plantago seeds, safflower flowers and Japanese honeysuckle flower buds. Take NutriFeron daily as a preventative measure and to build long-term immunity. If you start to feel those allergy symptoms kicking up, some people suggest taking up to 6 NuitriFeron per day to help thwart the sniffs and snuffles.

The Science Behind Immunity
A Shaklee hallmark… product versatility
There seems to be no end to the uses people find for fantastic Shaklee products. In fact, product versatility has almost become a “proprietary” hallmark unique to Shaklee. If you think you’ve used Shaklee products in every possible way, you might be surprised by these:
Foam oven cleaner
Add 1 Tbsp. Scour Off Heavy Duty Paste to a bowl of water and beat the mixture until it foams. Heat your oven to 150°, then turn it off and apply the foam. After 15-20 minutes, sponge off with warm water. For a super heavy duty foam, add 1 tsp. Basic H2 before beating.
Use 4 drops of Basic H2 in a gallon of water instead of expensive floral preservative to keep cut flowers fresh longer. Can also be used to clean plant leaves.
If you have a thermos that’s stained from coffee or tea, add 1 tsp. Dish Washer Automatic Powder Concentrate and fill with very hot water. After 15 minutes, scrub with a bottle brush and rinse well. The thermos will sparkle!
Bowl ‘em over
To clean hard water stains in your toilet bowl, put 2 tsp. Dish Washer Automatic Powder Concentrate in the water, swish around, then brush and flush.
When static electricity is in the air, causing sparks and shocks, just spray the room (avoiding upholstery) with a solution of water and 1 oz. Soft Fabric Concentrate in a 16 oz. spray unit. To eliminate static electricity in your clothes, spray the drum of your dryer with this solution before loading.
